We first try stripping metadata and (optionally) recompressing embedded JPEG images so text and vectors stay sharp. If the file is still over your cap, we rasterize whole pages and tune JPEG quality + resolution to approach the target. Default Sharper stays readable; extreme caps may need Smallest file. Use page ranges on long files. Your file stays in the browser.
